My experience on StatusCode 2

Like every time this time also i accumulated a team and shamelessly unprepared went into another hackathon . So starting from the beginning i waked up at 5 and cause this time the venue was too much nearby (directions ) , we were too chill and not packed anything or had any preparation. So waking my teammates who not coincidently were also hostel mates we started our lazy journey to IISER at 9.

Reaching there we of course as a proof our presence decided to click a selfie.

The onboarding was smooth and we collected our respected id’s , stickers, meal passes , snacks and went to our respective seats and met our fourth member who was already seated and waiting. Then after setting up our devices we went to the opening ceremony as usual. We were in the meantime was discussing our ideas (yes we weren’t really sure)

now after nearly an hour or more of the ceremony , the hackathon officially started and we started to build our respective project. It is too exhausting to discuss about the whole but i am linking down the GitHub repo and links below to discover more. But it was mostly around Foreign University prediction.

The idea

So at first we were thinking mostly about three things

  • Using NLP to predict university according to GPA , GRE , IEFL and many other parameters
  • using llm to give feedback on academic resumes and suggesting improvements upon it
  • making a sop reviewer, only a reviewer cause we don’t want llm’s to write to only get a generated response which holds ultimately no value
  • a very sexy ui for all this but we were also trying to deploy this and found ourselves with a track which was by the sponsor Vultr So with all this in our mind we started building with great focus

The Enhancement

So while we were working judges and mentors were overseeing and giving feedbacks . After discussing and pitching our idea to some of them , we received many feedbacks and decided we have to make changes or add another layer to truly make this a successful project

The process

We were really pumped up and started working. I was making the server and completed the SOP reviewer. Then started integrating other parts. There were many events in between this and the destination was lovely. I worked my ass off and integrated all the backend logic in one place. But as always too many variables came into play and most of the things still remain unsolved. Though individual services worked properly , aggregating and integrating with the frontend was incomplete.

Final Product

So as you have guessed the project didn’t finished, I thought we had a chance on the sponsor track and got busy deploying it in Vultr. But hell , turns out sshing takes time but i think i acheived quite success from the limited time to turnover. Do visit the site - academia.hawkaii.me .

The judgement turns out a total dissapointment. But what really surprised us the Vultr track winner was announced in the closing ceremony. There were no judges who checked our project for that track and I really doubt they even saw the Devfolio submissions.

But really learning nginx what i would take as the win. Just thinking about the things we could do like in any machine is what i think is a good ability. deploying a full stack using nginx on a ubuntu server .

Conclusion

So of course not the happiest ending but we had fun.
